When I ordered The World Is Your Dumpling: Little Parcels. Big Flavours. 80 Gorgeous Recipes by Emily Roz, I expected a book full of Asian dumplings. Boy was I wrong. This excellent cookbook includes dumplings from all over the world, with some of the varieties well known (like tortellini) and some not so well known. The variety is impressive, and this is one cookbook that anyone who loves dumplings of many kinds will want to immediately pick up.
The recipes are very appealing and are written in the traditional manner with the list of ingredients first, followed by step-by-step instructions. Anyone, no matter if they have beginning skills or advanced, can follow the instructions easily and end up with excellent dumplings. In addition to recipes for dumplings, including the wrappers and doughs used to make them, the author has included soups, appetizers, and main dishes using the homemade dumplings. There are even a few recipes for sweet dumplings that look mouthwatering.
Luckily Roz has also included beautiful photographs of many of the dishes, as well as step-by-step photos of assembly of the various kinds of dumplings. Most of the ingredients called for are readily available at mainstream grocery stores and Asian grocery stores. There are vegetarian choices of fillings, as well as fillings for those of us who love meat, poultry, and seafood.
All told, this is an excellent resource for learning to make good dumplings and will keep dumpling lovers happy with plenty of variety.
